The Nuits de Fourviere festival (5 June-31 July) a huge cultural celebration, will include eight French premieres and two world premieres. From Don Giovanni to Bob Dylan, events take place in the Fourvière Roman Theatres – built by Auguste in 15BC.
Hotel des Artistes (rooms from €92) On the old town side of Lyon’s trendy peninsula, this hip hotel is just opposite the Théâtre des Célestins. Its breakfast room was inspired by the work of legendary poet-playwright Jean Cocteau, and it remains popular with artists from both stage and screen, many of whose photos hang on the lobby walls.
